Amazon’s £6 gadget hailed a must for anyone cooking a roast or Christmas dinner

For anyone cooking a roast or Christmas dinner, the most essential component is usually the meat. But it can be easy to get wrong, especially where turkey, chicken and poultry is concerned.

Using a digital thermometer is almost essential to getting the perfectly roasted chicken or turkey at Christmas. A good thermometer will allow you to monitor the internal temperature of the meat so you can avoid overcooking or undercooking the bird and ruining your festive feast – or worse risking food poisoning.

Now Amazon customers are rushing to buy a budget cooking thermometer that has been labelled as ‘Amazon’s choice’ has been slashed by over 40% for Black Friday. Usually £10.99, the ThermoPro TP01S Digital Meat Thermometer is just £5.93 for a limited-time.

The meat thermometer’s temperature shows within four seconds after insertion. And has a temperature range of between -50°C and 300°C. The long probe helps avoiding burning yourself by mistake. And its sharp needle to go deep in thick cuts of food and works almost instantly.

The thermometer has gained an average star-rating of 4.5 out of five, from nearly 17,000 reviews. Customers have commented on the performance, ease of use, and accuracy of the meat thermometer.

One customer wrote: “Having recently jumped onto the air fryer bandwagon I was a little worried about the lack of cooking instructions and the subsequent risk of food poisoning. I didn’t want to go over board and this one took my eye as it was on offer at at already competitive price.

“So far it’s been perfect, the back-light is a good feature and it seems to be accurate enough for me. I originally wanted it for chicken but now everything gets checked after cooking as it’s so easy to use and clean…. and the reassurance that the food is properly cooked is well worth the two-second check.”

Another shopper said: “Easy to use and seems accurate compared to a couple I have and an old jam thermometer! Small and easily stored. I used it to measure the mashing and sparging temperatures during my first shot at brewing beer from grain rather all malt extract. Not used for any other culinary purpose as yet but I will be trying it. Overall, an inexpensive but well made item that reports accurate temperatures.”

A third penned: “Easy to use, I really don’t know what I’m doing with the BBQ, but using this I could check the food was safe to eat! I do have a smart thermometer as well, but this is much simpler which is ideal for me.”

However one person gave the thermometer three stars because ‘the battery cover falls off’. The shopper said: “I ordered four of these for my family. Three worked and one didn’t. I disliked the fact that the battery cover falls of very easy and exposes the small button batteries which can be very dangerous in the hands of children.”

But another called the thermometer a ‘handy little gadget’. They said: “This gives me peace of mind when cooking meat to make sure it’s cooked through. It’s worked absolutely perfect every time I’ve used it so far.”
