America Ferrera is ‘very unhappy’ by the rejection of director Greta Gerwig and co-star Margot Robbie, despite receiving an Oscar nomination for her Barbie role.

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants has been confirmed as a candidate for Best Supporting Actress. Meanwhile, Robbie, who played the titular character in the successful film, and its director received no awards in the lead actress or best director categories, respectively.

In an interview with CNN, Ferrera expressed her admiration for Gerwig and Robbie, stating that they “made history and raised the bar with Barbie.”

“I’m stunned and so moved to be nominated among the brilliant artists who have done beautiful and important work this year,” she said in a statement.

“I’m so proud to get to bring Latiné representation to this year’s Academy Awards, along with my fellow Latiné nominees. May the diversity of voices acknowledged by the Academy continue to grow!”

She went on to say that “the cultural and industry impact they’ve achieved will be felt for generations,” referring to the film’s worldwide box office triumph.

“I’m so thankful to them for asking me to be a part of it,” she said.

Following the Oscar nomination announcement, the Ugly Betty star told Variety that she was “incredibly disappointed that [Robbie and Gerwig] weren’t nominated.”

On the other hand, Gerwig is nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay as one of Barbie’s screenwriters, and Robbie is nominated for Best Picture as the film’s producer.
