An NHL goaltender skipped Saturday night’s pregame activities rather than wearing a Pride theme jersey. In a statement, James Reimer of the San Jose Sharks said that LGBTQ+ people should be welcome in all parts of ice hockey, but that “in this particular case, I am choosing not to support something that goes against my personal beliefs, which are based on the Bible, the highest authority in life.” He is the second NHL player to refuse Pride clothing; Philadelphia Flyers’ Ivan Provorov did the same in January.
