To celebrate art and creativity, this year’s Annual Student Art Exhibit will be on display at the Orcas Center from April 25 to May 19. This exhibit showcases artwork from A*OK classes (kindergarten through eighth grade) and features select pieces from Orcas Island High School art students. Join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, April 25, from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Madrona Room at the Orcas Center. This special evening will highlight the artistic achievements of public school students.
This year’s A*OK projects include Chinese New Year snakes, Día de los Muertos skulls and spooky cats, snowy owls and winter landscapes, cardboard self-portraits, agamographs, geometric and organic shape collages, and a special Middle School Guest Artist Series of work featuring printmaking, felting, charcoal and portrait illustration.
For over a decade, Art for Orcas Kids has provided high-quality visual arts education through a partnership between Orcas Island Education Foundation and Orcas Island School District. A*OK Teaching Artists bring art into the Orcas Island Elementary School, Orcas Island Montessori School and the Orcas Island Middle School with the support of OISD certified teaching staff.
A*OK receives support and funding from the Orcas Island Community Foundation, ArtsFund Community Accelerator and ArtsWA as well as through fundraising events and private donations. This spring, we will be participating in the OICF’s 13th Annual GiveOrcas Campaign from May 6 to May 15 at www.giveorcas.org. Learn more about A*OK at https://oief.org/art_for_orcas_kids/.
