RICHMOND, Va. – After three wins across singles and doubles last week for the Elon University men’s tennis team, Oskar Antinheimo has been selected as the CAA Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Antinheimo went 2-0 at No. 4 singles in Elon’s first two matches of the season against No. 15 Wake Forest on Jan. 15 and Georgia State on Jan. 20. The sophomore earned his first ranked win of the season against the Demon Deacons, knocking off No. 78 Franco Capalbo in a match tiebreak, 3-6, 6-4, 10-3. He followed that win with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Georgia State’s Diogo Morais. Antinheimo and doubles partner Jack Curtis also had a victory at the No. 3 slot against the Panthers.
This is Antinheimo’s fourth career CAA weekly honor and second time earning CAA Player of the Week, with the other coming on Feb. 14 last season after his singles victory against North Carolina. Antinheimo was also part of two CAA Doubles Team of the Week selections last season – one with Veljko Krstic and the other with Daniel Martin.
Elon will return to the courts in just over two weeks with a road match against No. 13 North Carolina on Feb. 8. The contest will be played indoors at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center and will start at 5 p.m.
