The future and present of technology lies in artificial intelligence. As you know, Apple is a couple of steps behind the rest of its competitors, that’s why it is going to collaborate with Google to reach where its own language cannot reach.
In his newsletter “Power On”, Gurman states that Apple’s LLM is the foundation for the upcoming generative AI features. “Everything indicates that it will run entirely on the device and not in the cloud, like most existing AI services.”
Since they will run on the device, Apple’s AI tools may be less capable in certain cases than their cloud-based rivals, but Gurman suggested that the company could “fill the gaps” by licensing technology from Google and other AI service providers.
Gemini will be on the iPhone 16 to reach where Apple’s AI won’t reach
Last month, Gurman reported that Apple was in talks with Google to integrate their artificial intelligence engine Gemini into the iPhone as part of iOS 18. The main advantages of on-device processing will be faster response times and superior privacy compared to cloud-based solutions.
Apparently, Apple’s marketing strategy for its AI technology will be based on its usefulness in users’ everyday life, rather than its power. It is expected that Apple’s overall AI strategy will be revealed along with advancements in its major software updates at WWDC in June.
Apple seems to be arriving later than its rivals, as Google with the Pixel 8 and Samsung with the Galaxy S24 are introducing AI into their devices, but it is clear that this is the last generation that arrives without artificial intelligence to the Apple ecosystem.
