Area tennis players begin PIAA state play today

HERSHEY — Hollidaysburg senior Megan Ferris and freshman Crosby Denis will begin play in the PIAA Class 3A Girls Doubles Tennis Championships at 10 a.m. Friday.

Ferris and Denis, the District 6 champions, will face Spring-Ford seniors Mia Matriccino and Evelyn Mejia, District 1’s third seed, in the first round at the Hershey Racquet Club.

The winner will play in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. All semifinals and finals in doubles and singles play will be held Saturday.

Central’s doubles team of juniors Julia Ritchey and Brooklyn Coppersmith, the D6 2A champs, play Loyalsock’s Anna Hall and Caroline Crawford, the District 4 champs, at 2 p.m. Friday with the quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m.

In 2A singles play, District 6 champ Marley Ratchford, a Central Cambria junior, opens against District 4 champ Sarah Buck of Hughesville at noon, and District 5 champ Haley Hundley, a Chestnut Ridge freshman, takes on District 1 champ Sofia Berestetska of Merion Mercy, also at noon.

Bedford junior Saide Livengood and sophomore Kasey Shuke, the District 5 2A doubles champs, will face District 1 champs Hannah Kideckel and Rebecca Kideckel, juniors from Lower Moreland, at 2 p.m.

In Class 3A singles action, District 6 champ Addison Lindsay, a freshman from Central Mountain, faces District 1 third seed Isabelle Emmanuel of Conestoga at 8 a.m.
