The Desert Botanical Garden is turning 86. How the Papago Park preserve came to be / Arizona Republic
The Desert Botanical Garden, an oasis nestled among the red rocks of Papago Park, turns 86 in February. From 1939 to this year, the Garden has grown to become a unique collection of more than 4,000 living species, including more than 500 rare and endangered species.

At Rosie’s House, the music tells a story of opportunity and dreams fulfilled, one note at a time. Rosie’s House, which opened its doors 30 years ago, was founded to eliminate the financial barriers to music education.  


EAC to represent excellence in theatre at prestigious Kennedy Center Festival /GilaValleyCentral

Eastern Arizona College of Thatcher will participate in the Region VIII Conference of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival in February at Mesa Community College.  The conference will showcase individual performances, full-scale productions, and other creative works, competing for awards in performance, design, technology, playwriting, and management.


West Valley school district to build new performing arts center / KTAR

The Agua Fria High School District announced a new arts academy and 700-seat theater, expected to open in August 2026, that will include a grand lobby, rehearsal and studio spaces and recording and cinematography studios. 


Hobbs’ proposed budget would restore the Arizona Commission on the Arts to the general fund / KJZZ

For more than a decade, the Arizona Commission on the Arts has had to lobby annually for one-time appropriations from the state. Gov. Katie Hobbs’ proposed budget includes ongoing funding of $1 million annually to the Commission in hopes of restoring a stable funding stream from the state.

The Arizona Opera is working to expand and diversify audiences statewide through its NextGen initiative. This initiative encompasses a variety of programs aimed at engaging and developing the next generation of artists, audiences, and supporters of opera. 


Art on the Lake: A celebration of creativity and community in Sahuarita / KGUN 9

Sahuarita Lake came alive Jan. 11 with vibrant colors, engaging sounds and the unmistakable energy of the community spirit as the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA) hosted its annual Art on the Lake festival.
