Los Angeles Police Department officers were involved in a shooting with a suspect in Boyle Heights on Sunday night, authorities say.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department Public Information Officer, officers with the Hollenbeck Division were in the area of 1st and Vicente Fernández streets near Mariachi Plaza around 10:20 p.m. Sunday when they observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with its doors open.
When officers exited their patrol unit to investigate, they located a suspect armed with a handgun, LAPD said. Gunfire was exchanged between the officers and the suspect, who was not hit, authorities confirmed.

The suspect described only as a man in his 20s, fled but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit, LAPD confirmed on X, formerly Twitter.
No injuries to officers or community members were reported.
1st Street from Boyle to State Street will remain closed for several hours as the investigation continues.
