TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Magic Valley is getting an injection of culture with Art and Soul kicking off on Friday.
For the past 15 years, the Magic Valley Arts Council has organized this month-long event, showcasing the talents of artists from both local and out-of-state areas and, this year, even one from Germany.
If you see a yellow flag outside a business in Twin Falls or Jerome, that means there is art inside.
Melissa Crane, the executive director of the Magic Valley Arts Council, said the community is highly anticipating this event.
“It enhances our tourism; it builds bonds between business owners in certain neighborhoods,” Crane said. “Community members get out and about and enjoy the art.”
Art and Soul showcases a diverse range of works featuring painters, photographers, sculptors and more.
Chrissy Canner crocheted a doll for the Art and Soul event. She has participated in the event since 2014 and has finished in second place a few times. She said she loves showing her work to the public.
“I’ve done art for therapy because I have a heart condition, and I’m disabled,” Canner said. “I think a lot of people around here, it gives our way to express ourselves and show us who we are. I used to have a little art store in downtown, Garden of Artists, which allowed local artists to display and sell their art. Due to my heart condition I’m not doing that no more. I’m so happy and thrilled that we have this opportunity here.”
There are 333 participants in the Art and Soul program. There is $47,000 worth of prize money to be given out to the winners.
You can vote your favorite online by scanning a QR code when you see the art piece.
