Art gallery invites locals to exhibit work to raise money for local cancer hospice

Visual Arts Cheshire (VAC), a community group which promote the interests of artists, is holding a new exhibition at its pop-up gallery at Barons Quay, Northwich, which is open to all.

The group is asking local people to produce an image to be displayed in this unique show, and there are just three rules: submissions must measure 20cm by 20cm; they must not be in a frame; and they must be purchasable for a maximum of £20.

It costs £2 to exhibit a picture, £1 of which will go to help St Luke’s Hospice.

VAC committee member, Phil Carswell, said: “The aim is for everyone to create a unique piece of art, to try and cover as much space as we can in the gallery.

“The work can be anything – an abstract, a portrait, a scene – and in any medium, such as paint, pencil, textiles, print, ceramic, photograph, or collage.

“People don’t have to feel that they need to be particularly artistic – it’s just the images we want really.

“So long as it is 20cm x 20cm and can be put onto a piece of card, wood, or canvas without a frame – we will display it.”

The exhibition runs from Saturday, November 25, until Saturday, December 30, but they will be accepting entries on November 23 and 24, between 10.30am and 1.30pm.

Submissions can also be made at any point while the exhibition is running while there is still space available, and there’s a maximum of six entries per artist.

The exhibition can be viewed between 10.30am and 4pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, while it is running.

Phil added: “We always get a fantastic turnout, but we want to get as many people in the community involved as possible.”
