STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – Staunton’s Art Hive Creative Reuse & Art Center and the City of Staunton will celebrate Artists Sunday, Dec. 1st. Artist Sunday is a nationwide event encouraging people to shop locally and support artists.
Artists Sunday takes place on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Nationwide participants include professional artists, non-profit art organizations, and municipalities across the country, as well as arts agencies, cities, counties, state agencies, chambers of commerce, and organizations. The Art Hive will feature handmade gifts like paintings, woodworking, candles, and skincare. Co-founder of the Art Hive, Kristen Schinder, said the event will spotlight artists, creators, and performers during the holiday shopping season.
“If we are just buying things from big box stores or from Amazon- our arts will die,” Schneider said as she emphasized the need for events like Artist Sunday to continue creativity in the local community.
