ARTfactory’s theater group shifting to professional status


ARTfactory’s community theater company, Rooftop Productions, will become a professional company and change its name to ARTfactory Actors Theatre in January.

As a professional company, all cast members and production staff will be paid.

Talya Conroy, CEO of the Manassas-based ARTfactory, says the nonprofit is ready to commit to a professional status.

“We have worked hard to be able to pay production teams for their time and talents, and now the ARTfactory is in a position to extend that professional credit to local actors,” she said. Conroy added that the change will not take away from ARTfactory’s non-profit status.

This change will also grant an opportunity to the ARTfactory’s Pied Piper Theatre students, who can earn professional credits after they have aged out of the youth program, according to a news release.

As part of the move, Kimberly Kemp, currently director of theater arts, will be producing artistic director, as her role includes the artistic vision and focus of the theater company as well as managing the production process.

Productions will still be at ARTfactory’s Wind River Theatre, as well as the Hylton Performing Arts Center, depending on the production. The 2025 season brings a mix of comedy and drama with play titles “All My Sons,” “Every Brilliant Thing” and “Lend Me A Soprano” and musicals “Cabaret,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

ARTfactory Actors Theatre will be the only professional theater company for plays and musicals in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park. Although the company will function under a professional status, ARTfactory says it encourages all individuals to audition for shows, regardless of experience.
