Summerville Artist Guild and Summerville ROCKS! celebrate “All Things Summerville” with a local art exhibition through Monday, Dec. 18, at Coastal Coffee Roasters, 108 E. Third St. in Summerville.
The Summerville Artist Guild is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to stimulating interest in visual arts, encouraging all levels of artistic ability, and promoting art education within the Summerville area. Summerville ROCKS! is the fundraising arm of the guild. It began in 2013 as a way to raise money for graduating Dorchester District 2 art students pursuing fine arts scholarships.
“Many of our guild members have recently donated their beautiful paintings to help raise funds for DD2 students,” said Tamara Cowart, Summerville Artist Guild vice president. “The theme we chose, ‘All Things Summerville,’ is to inspire the artists and share things we love about our town. This has been a wonderful way to promote encouragement within our guild by working together to promote the arts, and to do something good for students in our community. We are so grateful for the support of local artists, volunteers and businesses so we can continue funding these scholarships.”
All proceeds from sales of the 10-by-10-inch paintings fund DD2 arts scholarships. The art is also available for purchase online at www.summervilleartistguild.net/summerville-rocks. A public artist reception is 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Coastal Coffee Roasters.
