Verona-based artist Tatyana Kazakova will have a solo exhibition, “In Spite of Our Fears,” in Caldwell beginning next month.
The opening reception will be Thursday, February 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Grover House Gallery, 333 Bloomfield Avenue, in Caldwell. The exhibition runs through the end of June.
“This exhibit is an attempt to express the unthinkable,” says Kazakova. “Through art, I have found a way to navigate life’s unexpected path, to face fears and grief, and to find meaning and hope in the smallest details. Home, like a body, is a place to take shelter but can be destroyed at any moment. We often give ourselves over to the endless movement and bustle, engrossed in our worries, losing the ability to notice. Learning to stop and see is the most important for me; it allows me to capture the imprint of the eternal and unchanging. ‘In Spite of Our Fears’ is about resilience, the ties that bind us to our past, and the love that endures beyond all else. It is an effort to not get stuck in the transience of time, but rather grasp its nonlinear nature.”
Kazakova graduated from Moscow Printing Academy with an MFA in visual arts and was a regular participant in art shows in Russia and Germany, receiving awards for her book and graphic design. Living in the U.S. since 2000, Kazakova maintains a studio in Manufacturers Village in East Orange.
