UNESCO is pleased to invite you to the special webinar “Arts and Culture in Times of War: The Local Impact of the UNESCO Art-Lab for Human Rights and Dialogue in Lviv, Ukraine,” which will showcase the results of the Intercultural Dialogue program designed to promote human rights, resilience, and social cohesion in Ukraine.
From June to October 2024, 12 multidisciplinary artists worked across Ukraine to create nine projects that engaged with themes like human rights, rehabilitation, and healing through artistic expression. These projects emerged from a unique 8-week training program hosted by UNESCO. Some of the highlights include:
- Art initiatives featuring veterans, including exhibitions that amplify their stories of resilience and personal transformation.
- Performances tailored for the families of displaced persons and military personnel, fostering solidarity and emotional connection.
- Publications designed to encourage meaningful dialogue between civilians and veterans, bridging gaps and promoting mutual understanding.
- Collaborative “cities of dreams” projects co-created with veterans from Mariupol, envisioning hope and renewal through collective imagination.
- Workshops providing tattoo training as a new vocational path, alongside printmaking sessions that offer creative outlets for military families.
During the webinar, we will hear from key speakers involved in these initiatives and explore the ongoing impact of these projects in Ukraine. Additionally, UNESCO will present a new report, developed with Lanka.pro, which outlines strategies for using cultural investment to address human rights challenges, enhance social cohesion, and support long-term healing in conflict zones.
This program is supported by AECID (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation) and the UNESCO Lviv Culture Hub, in collaboration with the Lviv Municipal Art Center and Lanka.pro.
