The Gallery at Arts Illiana will open its annual smallART exhibition Friday.
The gallery will be open to the public from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, and light refreshments will be provided. After opening night, the gallery will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for viewing smallART2024.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Argentum Group at Morgan Stanley.
The small art exhibition is open to artists living in Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo counties in Indiana and Edgar and Clark counties in Illinois. Artists may submit up to five pieces and the entry fee is waived. This is the ninth year of this exhibition.
Arts Illiana is pleased to welcome first-time guest juror, Samuel Penaloza. He has selected 69 pieces of art representing the work of 48 artists. Penaloza does not only create unique art pieces, but he also works on murals. His most recent mural was the Citizens Energy Group’s DigIndy art project in 2022. He
Visitors to the gallery will also enjoy an exhibition of Penaloza’s artwork in the North Gallery during the run of smallART2024.
The small art exhibition also is an opportunity to purchase original and unique holiday gifts. The “small” aspect of the art is the requirement that all works entered in the show must measure no more than 12” by 12” (or 12” x 12” x 12” for the 3D pieces.) All work in the exhibition is for sale.
“It’s a wonderful way for the community to enjoy and collect unique, affordable art,” said Trevor Bridgewater, manager of the Gallery at Arts Illiana.
