Moon Bin, who was in the boy band ASTRO and its spin-off duo Moonbin&Sanha, has gone, his record label and management company said on Wednesday (April 19). He was 25. However, police are still looking into what caused the singer’s death.
The singer-songwriter-actor-model was reportedly discovered by his manager, who subsequently called the police, in his Seoul apartment, according to local reports. ASTRO’s agency, Fantagio, made a statement about his death and funeral plans. Fantagio, which came out in Korean, said that Moon Bin’s peers, labelmates, and company employees are sad about his death.
The company also said that Moon’s family wants a quiet funeral with family, friends, and colleagues from the business. Moon Sua, who is Moon Bin’s younger sister, is also in K-pop. She is the oldest member of the girl group Billlie.
In December 2022, Moon Bin and four other ASTRO players all signed new contracts with Fantagio. In January, Moon and his fellow ASTRO member Yoon San-ha put out their third EP as the duo Moonbin&Sanha, called “Incense.” Moonbin&Sanha were in the middle of their Diffusion Fan Con Tour, which started in February in Seoul and would take them to different places in Asia until May. The two had also just started an official fan community page on Weverse on April 16. Weverse is a global website for fandoms that HYBE made.
As a part of ASTRO, Moon Bin had seven albums on Billboard’s World Albums chart, with 2017’s Dream Part.02 reaching No. 5. He also had seven songs on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart, with 2019’s “All Night” reaching No. 6.
Even though he didn’t start his career in K-pop until February 2016 with ASTRO, Moon Bin has been a part of Korea’s talent scene since he was a child.
Moon Bin grew up in Cheongju, a big city in the middle of South Korea. As a kid, he worked as a model and played the “mini” version of TVXQ! member U-Know in the music video for “Balloons” in 2006. In 2009, he started acting. He was cast as the younger version of So Yijung in the famous Korean drama Boys Over Flowers, which was a turning point in the career of Korean actor Kim Sangbum. Moon Bin started training with Fantagio when he was in elementary school. In middle school, he became a full-time trainee. After that, he went to Hanlim Multi Art School in Seoul, where he studied practical music and passed.
In other parts of his career, Moon Bin moved easily into acting, modeling, and hosting.
Moon Bin was known for more than just his work. His smile was so bright and shining that some people said it reminded them of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. In conversations, he always seemed to be thinking about what would happen next.
