At least four dead and 60 injured during ‘stampede’ at music concert


Four people have died while around 60 have been injured in a stampede at a concert in India.

Students were killed in the stampede at a concert for Bollywood star Nikita Gandhi and Cochin University in Kerala. The tragedy struck during the university’s anniversary celebrations on Saturday evening as spectators began to rush inside following a sudden downpour, Indian media reports.

Health Minister Veena George has confirmed that two male students and two female died in the horrifying incident. Some 64 have been injured with at least two people reportedly in a critical condition.

The concert was being held at an open air venue at the time, and was said to be overcrowded despite access restricted with passes. The university was celebrating its annual Tech Fest “Dhishna” which is a three-day event at the time.
