The Red & Black compiles a weekly roundup of shows and events for the upcoming weekend. This weekend includes the 15th Annual Wild Rumpus Parade and Spectacle, a no-out-of-pocket-cost dental day, live performances and more.

CREATURES AT CREATURE

WHAT: Join the University of Georgia’s Herpetological Society to learn about and meet an array of animals, including turtles, snakes and amphibians.

NO-OUT-OF-POCKET-COST DENTAL DAY

WHAT: Greenpoint Pediatric Dentistry will be offering free dental services to children aged 1 to 10 with the help of medical professionals, organizations and individuals. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis and will cover services such as routine cleanings, white fillings and more. Visitors can also tie dye shirts and enjoy Halloween-themed games.

THE ROOM

WHAT: Meet actor Greg Sestero, star of “The Room” and author of “The Disaster Artist,” at this special screening of the “best worst movie ever made.” Before “The Room” screening, Sestero will host a Q&A session with the audience and there will be a meet and greet opportunity for every ticket holder.

BOOBUTANTE

WHAT: Party for a cause with Boybutante AIDS Foundation, Inc. during their annual Boobutante fundraiser. This Halloween-themed drag show will include drinking, singing and dancing, all while raising funds for HIV/AIDS support, education and prevention efforts throughout the greater Northeast Georgia Community.

Saturday, Oct. 28

STEAMROLLER PRINTMAKING

WHAT: Watch as the Lyndon House turns from an art center to an outdoor printing press during this steamroller printmaking workshop. Registered participants will be inking their carved 4-foot-long blocks before driving over them to print large-scale images on paper and fabric. Attendees can assist in rolling ink and pulling prints. In attendance will be guest artists Amanda Burk of Flat File Print Shop and David Hale of Love Hawk Studio.

WILD RUMPUS HALLOWEEN PARADE & SPECTACLE

WHAT: Wild Rumpus Halloween Parade & Spectacle is one the Southeast’s premier Halloween celebrations. Join thousands of costumed party goers as they flock to the streets of downtown Athens to create a rumpus of their own and dance the night away. The one-of-a-kind celebration will kick off around 5 p.m. at Creature Comforts Brewing Co. for the Rumpus Rally pre-parade party. At 8 p.m., the official parade will begin on West Hancock Avenue and wind through downtown, passing various stage performances along the route and end at a lively DJ dance party. Following the main festivities, Paloma Park will host a Royal Rumpus Ball after-party and fashion show.

TRASHFEST II

WHAT: The second installment of this packed night of live music features performances from local musicians Heffner, Girlpuppy, T. Hardy Morris, Sex Cell and more. Following the live music, Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz, also known as DJ Girtz-A-Lot, will perform a late night DJ set.

Sunday, Oct. 29

GOBLIN FUN RUN

WHAT: Practice your best horror movie chase scene with the Jack-O-Lantern Jog 5K and Goblin 1 mile Fun Run. The course, which is USA Track and Field certified and an AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifier, runs along the Oconee River Greenway, starting at the nature center and returning around College Avenue. All participants are encouraged to dress up in costume and any kids participating in the fun run will receive a finisher’s medal, goodie bag and race shirt. Unique themed awards will also be given to the top female and male runners in several age groups.

THE GRASS IS DEAD

WHAT: Aubrey Entertainment presents The Grass is Dead, a South Florida-based band that performs bluegrass versions of the Grateful Dead’s songs as well as other related music.
