Auburn will face Maryland and quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa in the Music City Bowl in Nashville.
The Terrapins (7-5) are seeking to win three bowl games in three years for the first time in program history. Tagovailoa already holds the Big Ten career passing mark with more than 11,000 yards.
Auburn is 6-6 in coach Hugh Freeze’s first year and trying to snap a three-game losing streak in bowls. The Tigers lost to playoff-bound rival Alabama on a last-minute, fourth-and-31 touchdown pass to close the regular season in the Iron Bowl.
One of Auburn’s top players is Defensive Tackle Marcus Harris, who has 40 tackles, seven sacks, 11 tackles for loss.
Maryland’s QB Tagovailoa has 3,377 yards, 25 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, Big Ten record 11,256 career passing yards.
The last time the two teams faced each other was Nov. 6, 1983 when No. 3 Auburn beat No. 7 Maryland 35-23.
Auburn is making its 47th bowl appearance and third in the Music City Bowl, seeking first bowl win since beating Purdue 63-14 in the 2018 game in Nashville.
The game is at 1PM CST on Dec. 30.
