The Audubon County Travelers camping club camps at various parks during the months April through October, but the first and the last one of the camping season is always at Albert the Bull Park at the edge of Audubon. In April, the water is turned on and the restrooms opened. In October the water is shut off and the restrooms closed, but this October something new was added to the park just outside the shelter house. The club purchased a bench made with recycled plastic, which looks and feels to me, like wood as I could feel a grain over the seat as I slid by hand over it. The writing on the back says Audubon County Travelers Club — Est. 1963. One of the fun things about the October meeting, which we call the “Freeze-Out” is that everyone contributes something to make a big pot of vegetable beef soup over an open fire. Amazing how it always turns out so tasty when no one knows what the other one is contributing to it.
