Augusta Eats: Your favorite pizza place just might have moved; we’ll tell you where

Homemade crust and fresh ingredients bring customers back to 2 Boys Pizza at its new location in Evans.

Columbia County’s 2 Boys Pizza and Grill restaurant opened in Evans in March, but despite the wishes of many customers, 3851 Evans to Locks Rd. isn’t a second location.

Homemade pizzas and gyros top the establishment’s menu of favorite Greek and Italian dishes, and the family that runs the place are quick to help their customers feel like family, too.

During Masters Week, 2 Boys was doubly busy, between loyal customers finding the new place and training staff. On the second day of the golf tournament, the host stand at 2 Boys was staffed by two boys – not the two on the sign outside, but a pair of students among the restaurant’s family members and other friends.

The staff learning curve, however, doesn’t affect the food’s taste. Serving from a reduced Masters Week menu during a brisk early-dinner rush, two 10-inch custom-topped pizzas hit one customer’s table less than 15 minutes after ordering.

The secret to 2 Boys’ pizza depends on which customer you ask. Some will tell you it’s the crust that’s cooked just crisp enough but not too chewy. Others might mention an ideal amount of tomato sauce. It’s not sold by the slice, but then again you likely will want more than one slice.

Fresh, homemade flavor emerges in other popular 2 Boys dishes such as the chicken alfredo. Wings come in several styles and sauces, particularly garlic parmesan. Even the ample single-serving salads could be shared for two.

Throw in the restaurant’s variety of desserts, including a luscious tuxedo cake, and customers’ decisions can get difficult. One online reviewer from fall 2023 seemed to sum it up:

“We dropped in to get desserts which I had heard were wonderful. Needless to say, we ended up ordering a pizza when we weren’t even hungry. Then we had to order two more because they were so delicious.”

Augusta’s original 2 Boys opened in 2021 in the former Denny’s at 3026 Washington Rd. Owner Magdy Faltaous had visited from the Columbia, S.C., area regularly to attend church in Columbia County, and the busy Washington Road traffic helped inspire him to establish a restaurant near Interstate 20’s Exit 199.

Magdy Faltaous, owner of 2 Boys Pizza and Grill, sits in a booth under a custom mural at the restaurant's former Augusta location. The restaurant moved to its new Evans location in March 2024.

That changed in February when 2 Boys closed temporarily to reopen in its new location a few days before Masters Week. The former restaurant at 3851 Evans to Locks, called simply Local, merged in late 2023 with its sister restaurant Cucina 503, less than a mile down the road at 502 and 503 Furys Ferry Rd. Chef Edward Mendoza owned both restaurants.

Now, 2 Boys sits in the Villages at Furys Ferry near a Chinese restaurant, Sunny Wok, and a Mexican restaurant, El Alazan, to create a miniature “restaurant row” of ethnic cuisine.

Closed Sundays, 2 Boys is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
