Having properly established herself on the WTA, the young American star now has her sights set on the first major of the year. The question is can she follow on from her break-out year in 2023?
Coco Gauff: The Story So Far
At 19 years old, Coco Gauff is turning heads and truthfully, it’s just the beginning. In 2023, the American delivered on her obvious promise by winning the US Open on home soil. It was the confirmation of what many already knew: women’s tennis has a new star. Now, Gauff will be playing down under at Melbourne Park in Australia. The ‘Island Continent’ presents an interesting challenge for the world No. 4, as she has so far failed to make any real impact. Given her form coming in, that’s widely expected to change.
Of course, it’s true that Gauff did in fact make it to the quarter-finals of the tournament on two occasions as a doubles player, however, playing in singles, she’s never been beyond the fourth round. That’s to say, there will be many watching to see whether or not 2024 is the year that she breaks the trend.
So, when does Coco Gauff play? Having already defeated Anna Karolína Schmiedlova, Caroline Dolehide, and Alycia Parks, , Guaff will now face Magdalena Frech on Sunday, January 21st. There has been no official match time given as yet. Be sure to check back for updates.
