Recently, as the Australian Open is going on, the tournament director shared his worry about the sport’s future.

Being a traditional sport, a lot of people from the tennis world are trying to bring the sport up so that it never loses its charm. But it is not that easy, and on that topic, Craig Tiley recently opened up about how they are planning to create an ecosystem for a better future for tennis.

Australian Open director worries about the sporting future

As the first Grand Slam tournament of the year steps closer towards the end, the Australian Open director called out for some major changes to tennis globally, just to speed up the sport. Along with that, he took this step so that it could attract young fans and possibly grow in a better way. In an interview with the Herald Sun, he opened up about his thoughts behind that idea.

He stated, “I always believe that if there is the right money in the ecosystem it will attract more people to play – more players making more money. We will play a role with the Australian Open and events here but we also want to play a role globally because we think we can make a difference and make change.”

He then added, “So, yes, I think there is a need for change, there is a list of things that need to change and if that doesn’t happen our sport will eventually lose out.” Further, he also detailed how having events where the players have to sit around after the game can be a problem for them.

Nevertheless, for the sport to be alive and survive in the upcoming generations, the director of AO is thinking about changing and bringing new evolutions to the game. Not only that but last year, Serena Williams’ former coach opened up about his game-changing idea for the betterment of the tennis future.

Last year, in an interview, Patrick Mouratoglou opened up about his dream with the UTS. In a candid interview, he said, “My dream is to have UTS together with the ATP, having a traditional tour, like we have already, which is, I think beautiful and incredible for all the traditional tennis fans, and next to it, another Tour, that is UTS, dedicated to bringing young fans and new fans, to become tennis fans.”

He opened up about how the league he formed can help reinvent tennis but, at the same time, will also have traditional roots attached to it. He further added that if all of them work together and have one competition for a month with every tour in it, in no time the future of tennis will be secured in a better way.
