Thiruvananthapuram: As a prelude to the ensuing global investor meet next year, an automotive technology round table will be held in Nov, said industries minister P Rajeeve. Renowned automobile manufacturer BMW will collaborate with this initiative, he added.
He said the state capital will be transformed into an automotive hub. For this, a discussion was held with the BMW representatives.
The minister had discussions with Stefan Jurasek, a BMW official and strategy advisor at Acsia Technologies, and BMW developers Kristina Hein and Herman Ferrer on Wednesday.
Although there were discussions for establishing a BMW manufacturing unit near the Kochi port earlier, they did not materialise due to the unavailability of suitable land.
The BMW officials mentioned that there are now extensive opportunities in Kerala for the company’s technological sector.
Globally renowned companies in automotive technology have already started operations in Kerala, creating a favourable environment, the minister told the officials.
Rajeeve said many companies from Germany and Sweden will participate in the round table conference. He also expressed hope that alongside companies like D Space, Armad, Safran, and Accenture, more world-class companies could be attracted.
Principal secretary of industries APM Mohammed Hanish, KSIDC executive director R Harikrishnan, and CII Thiruvananthapuram zone chairman Jijimon Chandran also participated in the meeting.
