Avon Lake resident Lucas Hricko has worked with the Avon Lake Community Television department for years.
Late last year, Hricko’s public access program “Our Avon Lake” was honored with an award from the Philo T. Farnsworth Video Competition’s Philo Festival.
Hricko took home this year’s “Excellence in Editing” award from the competition, which included more than 160 entries, according to the Avon Lake Community Television department.
He said the project was a full team effort between him and the department.
“I would like to thank all of my coworkers at the Avon Lake Communications & Technology Department for their contributions to the ‘Our Avon Lake’ video,’” Hricko said. “This project was a team effort to present the best features of the city, and we are very honored to win in two categories.”
This award is the next in line for Hricko, who has received recognition from the competition in the past.

Hricko’s past works that received awards included “The Jackie-O Show: Ohio Village Muffins vs. Avon Lake” and “The Haunted Trails at Weiss Park.”
Director Barb Cagley explained that while Avon Lake Community Television started as a simple public access channel, the department has grown into so much more.
Now home to two channels and a video podcast, the department is thriving, Cagley said.
“We have two channels; one is government and one is public,” she said. “(The award) reaffirms our belief that we’re doing a good job.
“To hear that we stand number one, in their opinions, really reaffirms the feeling that we’re doing a good job. They have hundreds of entries, and to know that this stands out above all of those, it’s pretty cool.”
Cagley said the entire department is proud for the recognition with any award like the one it just received, especially one that is voted on by their peers.
Hricko’s work in “Our Avon Lake” is indicative of the skill that he possesses, especially in editing, she said.
“To have our peers, people who do what we do, recognize our video for the skills necessary to produce ‘Our Avon Lake’ is quite an honor,” Cagley said. “If you have not had a chance to see the video, visit the city’s website.
“There, you can also find other videos that our department is really proud of.”
