Baby dies after being left in hot car in Morgantown, police investigating


MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WDTV) – A baby was found dead in a vehicle in Morgantown Wednesday afternoon after being left in a hot car.

It’s unknown how long the child was left in the vehicle at this time.

The Morgantown Police Department responded to Young Hearts Daycare on Collins Ferry Road in Morgantown at approximately 4:05 p.m. in regard to a reported cardiac arrest. When officers arrived on scene, they found a baby in a rear-facing car seat in the backseat of an SUV and was advised by EMS that the child was dead.

At this time, no charges have been filed, and information is still being gathered, police said.

The Morgantown Police Department’s Detectives Division and the State Medical Examiners Office will continue to investigate the incident.

“The department wishes to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends that have been directly impacted by this tragic loss as well as recognizing the devastating impact such a loss is to the community,” said Morgantown Police Department Chief Eric Powell.
