Kamille has been absent from AEW programming for over six months, and while the company has kept details about her hiatus under wraps, new information points to a career pivot rather than any backstage issues.
According to a report from Fightful Select, Kamille’s time away isn’t due to injury or creative differences. Instead, like fellow AEW star Wardlow, she’s currently involved in an upcoming television project that’s expected to keep her occupied through at least part of the summer.
It’s unclear whether Kamille’s absence was the result of any specific creative meetings, such as those that reportedly influenced Wardlow’s status. When asked internally about her situation, several AEW sources said much of the locker room has been “in the dark” regarding her absence.
There was some speculation that AEW President Tony Khan wasn’t fully convinced about a potential on-screen pairing between Kamille and Mercedes Mone. However, sources confirm that Mercedes was open to a program with Kamille, and the match had even been discussed as far back as December. Those plans, however, appear to have been shelved.
Outside of a brief battle royal appearance on the independent circuit, Kamille has stayed mostly off TV, though she continues to make occasional signing appearances. She still has a considerable amount of time left on her AEW contract.
While her in-ring return doesn’t seem to be on the immediate horizon, Kamille’s hiatus appears to be a calculated move as she explores new opportunities in television.
