‘Baroque Christmas’ concert to feature the instruments of the early 1700s

A group of musicians want to give audiences the chance to experience what it was like to hear the rich texture of pre-1700s early music. The Handel and Haydn Society’s ‘Baroque Christmas’ concert features early instruments like the theorbo and the baroque guitar, which deliver a darker, “earthier” sound compared to popular holiday music.

WBUR’s Radio Boston sat down with musician and theorbist John Lenti and Ruben Valenzuela, founder and artistic director of Bach Collegium San Diego and the guest conductor at this year’s ‘Baroque Christmas’ concerts at Jordan Hall.

This segment aired on December 19, 2024. Audio will be available soon.
