GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It’s a great time of the year to visit the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary.

Curator Lori Bankson says with the cold snap, staff have been busy taking calls from people finding animals stranded out in the cold.

“With the strange weather we’ve had, a lot of animals didn’t move as much as they needed to before this cold came in,” said Bankson. “So there’s a lot of crazy stuff happening here in Wisconsin.”

Wildlife has to keep moving to stay warm, so if you see an animal not moving around and seems stuck or sick, give them a call.

You can also help wildlife during the winter by putting out high-calorie foods like sunflower seeds, thistle seed, corn and suet.

It’s also a good idea to have a heated water dish out for the animals because it’s easy for them to get dehydrated in the winter.
