MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — You might not think rock ‘n’ roll and mouthwatering food go together, but the offerings at The Gnosh Pit food truck are sure to rock your world.
Music and food have always been a huge deal for owner Meredith McCarthy. She’s a musician who attended culinary school and decided she wanted to combine those passions.
“I always wanted to be a touring musician, and I was for a while,” McCarthy said. “When that dream fizzled out and I decided to do the food truck, I was like, ‘Well, I can do it. I can be a touring food truck.’”
Now you can ‘rock out’ while you ‘eat out’ with The Gnosh Pit’s expansive menu.
“If you’re a vegetarian, or if you’re a vegan, if you like meat, chicken, shrimp, we have everything,” McCarthy said.
One highlight on the menu is the deep-fried burger.
“If you’re from New York or New Jersey, you’re aware of what a calzone is,” McCarthy said. “It’s almost like a burger calzone.”
On the inside is a beef patty with all your favorite toppings. It is then wrapped up in dough and plopped in the deep fryer. When it comes out, the burger is encased in a crispy shell of buttery goodness.
In the South, anything can be deep fried, McCarthy said. That mindset is what inspired other popular menu items like the deep-fried apples and the deep-fried mashed potato ball.
The outside of the truck is just as unique as the inside. It is covered in all kinds of stickers.
“It’s everything from David Bowie to a place I went to in Cozumel,” McCarthy said. “We have bands that come to visit the truck and are like, ‘Hey, can we put [on] our sticker?’ So, we’re almost like a rolling promo.”
McCarthy said, the busy season for The Gnosh Pit starts ramping up about now. It starts with the Run to the Sun car show at the beginning of March and stays busy all summer long.
You can find The Gnosh Pit at events up and down the Grand Strand all throughout the year. They post their weekly schedule on their Facebook and Instagram and on their website every Monday.
