Berks County is divided into three jurisdictions: Reading, Muhlenberg Township and the rest of the county. Reading and Muhlenberg Township have their own food safety inspectors and the rest of the county is inspected by Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture inspectors.

The results will be posted every other week. All food vendors are inspected at least once a year. Other inspections can be triggered by a change of owner, a follow up if a facility had been out of compliance or by a complaint filed with the PDA.

If a food provider is labeled out of compliance, that means it has one or more violations that require a return visit by an inspector. The establishment is given time to fix the problem(s) and remains open for business.

Gramia’s Restaurant, 924 W. Philadelphia Ave., Boyertown, Oct. 17: two violations. Observed the Avantco ice machine interior at the front counter with moldlike buildup. Corrected. Deli meats and cheese, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. COS Observed rusted and corroded shelving in the walk-in cooler area. Plastic straws, lemons, and ice were observed in the handwash sink at the bar, indicating uses other than handwashing. COS. Floor under grill and fryer has an excessive buildup of food debris and grease.

Observed bags panko bread crumbs/flour food stored directly on the floor in pizza mixer area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Shipping overwrap left on exterior of warewashing machine must be removed. Loose/torn rubber door gaskets observed on the 2 kitchen cooling units. Repair parts are on order. The handwash sink located in the warewashing area does not have water at a temperature of at least 85°F. Ceiling fan blades in kitchen area of the food facility are dust and in need of cleaning.

Governor Mifflin School District Intermediate, 600 Governor Drive, Shillington, Oct. 12: two violations. Mechanical warewashing equipment had a slime buildup observed inside opening chute top hood area. Ceiling tile above warewashing prewash sink is flaking and peeling and also has a dust build up around metal frame area.

Mad Waffle Tff 3-Xpm7612, 5306 Allentown Pike, Temple, Oct. 12: one violation. Flooring and walls in unit have some gaps/holes in wood that must be repaired.

River Rock Academy @ Amity Primary Center, 2144 Weavertown Road, Douglassville, Oct. 12: two violations. The handwashing sink in outside the ware washing room sprays water from around the spout. Dock-style door located just outside the back door of the kitchen area has a large gap at the bottom and does not protect against the entry of insects and other pests.

Bitler Farms, 3115 Main St., Birdsboro, Oct. 11: one violation.

Dans At Green Hills, 2444 Morgantown Road, Reading, Oct. 11: two violations. Vacuum packed tuna was observed thawing in vacuum packaging which is a prohibited method. Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt. Chains holding racks above cook line have a dust accumulation and light covers have a build up of dead insects.

Sheetz #273, 4100 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, Oct. 11: one violation. Observed a buildup of old dirt and debris under the drink making area that needs to be cleaned up.
