Beyoncé Intentionally Omits Lizzo’s Name from the Remix of ‘Break My Soul’

During her Renaissance tour, famous Crazy in Love singer Beyoncé has been singing a remixed version of her song Break My Soul (The Queens Remix).

In this version, she pays tribute to a number of Black women singers who broke new ground. But when she recently played in Boston, Massachusetts, Lizzo’s name wasn’t in the words at all.

In the original words, Beyoncé mentions Lizzo along with “Betty Davis, Solange Knowles / [Erykah Badu], Lizzo, Kelly Rowl’ (You know you can do it).”

But in concert video that was shared on Twitter, Beyoncé replaces Lizzo’s name with “Badu” four times instead.

Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, is being sued by three of her former dancers. The absence happened soon after the news broke. The dancers say that they were sexually harassed and had a bad time at work when they worked with her.

During their time in Amsterdam, according to the lawsuit, Lizzo is said to have made rude comments about the dancers’ weight and pushed one of them to touch a naked performer in a strip club. The lawsuit also says that Lizzo told cast members to do uncomfortable things like catch dildos thrown from performers’ vaginas and eat bananas that were sticking out of performers’ vaginas.

Lizzo’s reputation for promoting body positivity has been called into question by this legal fight. This puts her in a different light than her public image suggests.
