Autumn see’s ‘British country style’ again at the forefront with Prince Of Wales checks, traditional tweeds and plaid patterns reimagined by designers such as Dior, Vivienne Westwood and Schaparelli. Leopard

We’re all for investing in trends that last the longhaul and it appears the ‘Mobwife’ aesthetic isn’t going anywhere soon. If you shopped the trend this spring, keep those pieces at the front of your wardrobe as animal print continues to be be big news. We saw leopard print accessories at Isabel Marant, trench coats at Dior, luxe suiting at Dries Van Noten and even statement tights at Zimmerman- go wild.

Top Style Tip: Keep it chic and wear with chocolate brown or camel shades

No doubt thanks in part to Taylor Swift that swept the country this summer, red lips (the singer’s trademark make-up look) are back for autumn and winter. Get the look with NARS’ new Explicit Lipstick in the shade Unauthorised, £34 here, or, for a shinier finish, Rimmel Oh My Gloss! Lip Oil in Vivid Red, £8.99. Pair it with Bio Sculpture’s gel polish shade Zoey on your nails; the brand predicts that this chic dark copper-red, will be the shade everyone will be asking for at the salon this autumn.

RETINAL INSTEAD OF RETINOL

Now that we all understand the benefits of retinol (Boots report that this was the most searched for skincare ingredient in 2023), it’s time to look to retinAL instead. Also called retinaldehyde, retinal requires fewer conversion steps to become skincompatible vitamin A, and works up to 11 times faster. Expect quicker results on fine lines and wrinkles without irritation with these smart new formulas.

Shop the trend: Kate Somerville Mega A Skin Transforming Serum, £72 here; The Ordinary Retinal 0.2% Emulsion, £15.20 here; and Paula’s Choice Clinical Pro Retinaldehyde Dual-Retinoid Treatment, £63 here.

GOLDI LOCKS

‘Golden hour hair’ was a big colour trend for blondes over summer, and the move away from cool, ashy tones and towards warmer shades looks set to continue into this season (they reflect light better too, giving a more luxe look). Stéphane Ferreira, operations manager and senior colourist at salon chain Live True, says to ask for a honey blonde hue at your hair appointment.

It’s easygoing and the perfect transition shade from summer to winter,” he says. It’s ideal for clients looking to move to a darker blonde from their summer shade but keep it warm and glossy.”

BUILT-TO-LAST BOOTS

Walking into the new season wouldn’t be right without boots taking the spotlight and the AW24 offerings certainly command attention. Between the patent riding styles at Gucci and zipped up bikers at Hermes, there’s a pair to suit all tastes. But, those looking for immediate style inspiration, march your way into autumn with the below chunky stomper styles.

Top Style Tip: Soften heavy soles and tough hardwear with floaty fabrics and feminine details like ruffles.

CHIC CHEEKS

If you thought there was only one way to add colour to your cheeks then think again. Blusher has fast become one of the most adaptable items on our make-up bags, as trends such as ‘sunset blush’, ‘boyfriend blush’ and ‘crying blush’ have gone viral this year.

Our beauty editor – and long-time blusherphobe – Laura Mulley has been totally won over by Rhode’s viral Pocket Blushes, £24 here (“the shade Piggy will give a youthful pop of colour to winter skin”). Other new launches to look out for include Dior Rouge Blush Colour & Glow, £48 here, 19/99 Cream Blush Stick, £28 here, and Glow Hub Glow Balm The Good Skin Glaze, £12 here.

POLYNUCLEOTIDES

We’ve seen traditional injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers take a backseat in recent years as people opt for tweakments designed to improve the quality of the skin rather than change the shape of the face. “Injectable polynucleotides activate fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin.

This promotes tissue regeneration, leading to smoother, firmer and more youthful-looking skin,” says Dr Anjali Mahto, consultant dermatologist at Self London. “They can be used to treat various areas of the face and body including fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin and areas prone to volume loss.” Prices start from around £275.

Sienna Miller’s stunning collaboration with Marks & Spencer already tickled our style buds for the boho trend this summer but it was Chemena Kamali’s debut at Chloe that sealed the deal for fall- Yes that’s right, forget social media this trend has quite literally fallen straight off the catwalk.

Models showcased sheer ruffled dresses mixed with leather, studded boots and statement sunnies whilst we can always rely on Isabel Marant for inspiration too. The designer’s signature fringing and bohoesque prints prove the boho trend has serious staying power.

Shop the trend: Chiffon dress, H&M, £34.99 here; studded western boots, River Island, £55 here; and ruffle blouse, Anthropologie, £98 here.

WEAR YOUR GREENS

Cherry red may have dominated the spring/ summer runways but it’s green that’s been given the go ahead for autumn. Whether neon lime, forest, or earthy olive this flattering hue deserves a top spot in your new season wardrobe. If you’re new to wearing the shade opt for khaki which is surprisingly easy to wear and expected to take over a high street near you very soon…
