DODOMA: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Dr Doto Biteko has hailed environmental conservation education initiatives implemented by the National Conservation and Environmental Management Council (NEMC).

Speaking at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Center in Dodoma shortly after visiting the environmental watchdog pavilion, Dr. Biteko said “It’s important for the environment to be conserved for the future and sustainability of the nation.”

According to Biteko, the environment is the mainstay of the country’s sustainable development and that efforts are needed to ensure it’s conserved.

“I am very relieved to see your participation in this exhibition, which will be of great benefit to our country. People will be able to gain knowledge about environmental management and conservation in accordance with government laws,” he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister witnessed various activities including technology and innovation in the conservation and management of the environment. This technology ranged from clean energy for cooking, solid waste management, to conservation of water sources.

iBiteko was, however, concerned that a lot more places in the country have been devastated as a result of various human activities. He named bush fire, charcoal, waste disposal, and mining as among the serious anti- conservation activities.

“The impact of environmental destruction is profound,” he said, calling for continued innovation to protect the mighty environment.
