Black History Month: Samm-Art Williams is a Literary Hall of Famer, worked on popular television shows


BURGAW, N.C. (WECT) – Samm-Art Williams, playwright and screenwriter, was born in Burgaw in 1946.

Over the course of his career, Williams would be nominated for a Tony and two Emmy awards. He also served as an executive producer for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Martin.

In 2010, Williams was inducted into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame.
