Bloomfield Hills repeats as state Division 1 tennis champion


Bloomfield Hills still holds sway in boys prep tennis.

The Blackhawks had six flight champions, including all four doubles teams, on the way to winning a second consecutive state Division 1 championship at the Greater Midland Tennis Center on Saturday.

Bloomfield Hills scored 36 points and Troy and Northville tied for second place with 27 apiece.

Midland Dow won the Division 2 championship, Cranbrook won in  Division 3 and Ann Arbor Greenhills won in Division 4.

Advancing from the regional at Grosse Pointe North, De La Salle Collegiate had four singles players and four doubles teams compete in Division 2.

Max Livingston, Braeden Holder, Mark Gerardi and Gabriel Fischer played singles matches for the Catholic League team. The Pilots were represented by doubles teams Josh Opolski/Jacob Hubbs; Cameron Conklin/Gianmarco Rizzo; Daniel Fergan/Joey Youngblood, and Mark Djokaj/Joe Olejniczak at the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Club.

Romeo scored three points in Division 1.

Austin Habicht defeated Haytham Sander of Holt 6-3, 6-2, and Angelo Bugli defeated Easton Wurm of Rockford 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 in singles matches.

Stevenson’s Daniel Buzdugan defeated the Bulldogs’ Marko Dimovski 6-1, 6-1.

Gavin Habicht and doubles teams of Roman Tarnovsky/Dominic Carpenter, Brandon April/Drew Roth, Cooper Schornack/Jaren Habicht and Benjamin Hodges/Cormac Young also competed.

Singles player Aaron Glefke represented L’Anse Creuse North.

Dow had 29 points and runner-up Birmingham Seaholm 24.

Cranbrook scored 37 points and Detroit Country Day 28 at Kalamazoo College. It was the Cranes’ second championship in three years.

Greenhills had 39 points and University Liggett 22 at Hope College.
