MINNEAPOLIS — Blue Earth Area senior netter Addison Armstrong exited the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center on Friday with the Class A individual state tennis meet’s singles consolation championship.

Armstrong demonstrated her tenacity by rebounding from a 6-1, 6-0 first-round loss to Pine City’s Brooke Boland during opening-round action Thursday by reeling off three consecutive wins during the next 36 hours inside the Minneapolis-based facility.

Blue Earth Area’s captain served a 6-4, 6-1 consolation quarterfinal loss to Montevideo’s Brooke Lindeman to cap Day 1 state singles action.

Armstrong returned to the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center courts on Friday to nearly duplicate her prior victory, defeating New London-Spicer’s Amyra Gamez in the consolation semifinals, 6-4, 6-0.

Armstrong then put the finishing touches on her outstanding high school tennis career by producing back-to-back 6-2 set decisions over Thief River Falls’ Braylee Wienen in the Class A consolation singles championship match.

Armstrong closed out her prolific prep racket days at Blue Earth Area with 104 career victories.

In one of the Minnesota State High School League’s most dominating athletic performances of the current fall campaign, Isabelle Einess not only defended her Class A singles state championship from a year ago, but the Breck senior sensation did not lose a game en route to earning the gold medal.

Einess opened Thursday’s initial round with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lindeman before eliminating Boland in back-to-back love sets during championship quarterfinal play.

Einess breezed to a minimum 12-game semifinal triumph over Holy Family Catholic’s Casey Cronin to kick off Friday’s action before capping her 48 consecutive-game winning streak with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Osakis’ Leah Maddock in the championship finals.

In Class A individual state doubles play, Blue Earth Area’s Olivia Dutton and Grace Hanson opened Thursday’s action at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center with a 6-1, 6-2 first-round loss to 2022 Class A state doubles champions Greta Johnson and Chloe Alley of Minnehaha Academy.

Pine City’s Lexa Valvoda and Alana Linnell then eliminated Dutton and Hanson during the consolation doubles quarterfinals via a 6-3, 6-3 decision in Minneapolis.

Johnson and Alley breezed by Litchfield’s Isla Dille and Olivia Olson during championship doubles quarterfinal action in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, on Thursday.

Johnson and Alley then returned for Day 2 action and outlasted Rochester Lourdes’ Caroline Daly and Elyse Palen in a hard-fought three-set semifinal, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, on Friday before squaring off against The Blake School’s sibling combination of Fatemeh Vang and Nana Vang in the doubles championship showdown.

The Vang sisters earned the Class A state gold medals by posting a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Johnson and Alley of Minnhaha Academy.
