All college-goers have that one thing that they cannot do without. Check out some must-haves for the academic world

It is usually at the start of the academic session that city markets are flooded with anything students would like to stock up on, from stationery to gadgets and college wear. Here is a lowdown on what students want.

Stationery
Be it school or college, stationery items like pens, notepads and folders are must-haves for students. Neha Gupta, a second year engineering student, says, “Once the session starts, we get busy with our routine and other than Sunday, there isn’t any other time to buy these. While working on assignments and projects, things like sticky tape, a stapler, pens and sketch pens come handy. I have already purchased a sufficient stock of all these. I also maintain notes for every subject and that helps me revise properly during the semester exams. I also have a collection of highlighters to mark important details.” Engineering student, Manali Sharma, prefers maintaining separate registers for her notes. “We have educational tours and visits from time to time, so a notepad is essential. Also, instead of just jotting down notes in one register, I maintain separate ones for each subject. Buying stationery in one go is cost effective.”


Monsoon essentials and gadgets
The market is flooded with fancy raincoats and umbrellas and students are wisely picking up rain wear to see themselves through the monsoon. Prakriti Mehta, a BCA student, says, “I picked up a threefold umbrella that is easy to carry. It also fits in my hand bag.” Besides this, pen drives and headphones are topping youngsters’ college shopping lists. Ritesh Parihar, who is studying journalism, says, “For my first year, I will be travelling via public transport. A pair of headphones will be a good companion till I make new friends.”

Accessories and bags
College time is when youngsters like to look their best, and if your college isn’t one of those that mandates a uniform, the possibilities to dress are endless.

Looking for items ranging from shades to bracelets, youngsters are busy with their last-minute shopping before college reopens. Sheetal Gangrade, a BBA student, however says, “In a way, it is good to have a dress code as it cuts down on a lot of expenses. I don’t have to waste time wondering what to wear or buying matching accessories to go with my casual wear.

However, I love carrying fancy backpacks. I have bought three trendy ones. I also have a pair of monsoon footwear that will suit anything I wear.”

Besides accessories, backpacks are another essential. There are plenty of backpacks that have flooded the market. They can be found in the range of `200 to `600. Nihar Parihar, a BCom student, adds, “A watch is a must-have for me. I am not brand conscious, but a good and presentable one is all I need on my wrist.”
