Montana State captured all three doubles matches and won five of six singles to post a 6-1 win over Utah Tech at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Utah on Saturday morning.
Montana State’s (3-1) top tandem of Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins recorded a 6-4 win over Rachel Mellor and Mariana Zurita. MSU’s Nos. 2 and 3 doubles also defeated Utah Tech winning 7-5, and 6-1, respectively.
“We competed really well in doubles and were aggressive,” said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. “It was fun to see us close-out three close doubles matches.”
The Bobcats took the top four singles matches on the ladder in straight sets, while Andrea Cuquerella recorded a 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 decision over Mellor at no. 5. MSU’s singles play was highlighted by freshman Paula Dougherty who notched a 7-6, 6-4 win over Adithi Venkatakrishnan at the No. 2 position.
“In singles, we came ready to go,” Woodburn said. “We stuck to our game plans and good things happened. Congrats to Paula Dougherty for getting her first doubles and singles wins as a Bobcat.”
