BREC Art Fest is set for April 5, and the Greater Baton Rouge Children’s Choir performs Sunday

Talented visual art students at Glasgow Middle School, under the direction of teacher and artist Geeta Dave, chose to celebrate traditional folk art of Gujarat, India, in their exhibit, ‘Umbrella of Color’ at the Shaw Center for the Arts. The show runs through March 31. 




BREC Art Fest

BREC will host its third annual Art Fest from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Baringer Road Art Center, 7401 Baringer Road, Baton Rouge.

This free, family fest will include a morning of art demos, a collaborative community art piece, projects for young artists, fun music, treats and a display of some of the art created by students in BREC’s classes. There will also be vetted adult art vendors and young artist vendors selling unique art pieces, and a paint-by-number art exhibit.

In conjunction with Art Fest, BREC Art is accepting pieces of paint-by-number art to be displayed at the Baringer Art Studio during the event as part of its Community Paint by Number display. Help BREC celebrate old-school style by submitting a fun, retro paint-by-number piece. The submission deadline is Saturday. To submit artwork, email [email protected].

Children’s choir

The Greater Baton Rouge Children’s Choir will participate in the annual Taste of Mid City event on Sunday at The Executive Center, 250 S. Foster Drive.

This event celebrates the creativity and culture of Mid City Baton Rouge, featuring local food vendors, artisans and live performances. The Children’s Choir will collaborate with Kids’ Orchestra to present a musical showcase that highlights the talents of young performers and the power of music to bring communities together.

‘Umbrella of Color’

The installation, “Umbrella of Color,” by students in Glasgow Middle School’s talented visual arts program, will run through Monday in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St., Baton Rouge.

At the Poydras Center

The Poydras Center, 500 W. Main St., New Roads, is sponsoring a duo art exhibition through Monday of Louisiana artists Kellie Martin Smith and Olivia McNeely Pass.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. This exhibit, which is a collaboration between the Arts Council of Pointe Coupee and the Pointe Coupee Historical Society, marks the third year for these pop-up exhibits.

At Cité des Arts

Tickets are on sale for Cité des Arts’ production of “Reunion,” written and directed by Patricia Cravins. The show will have three performances at the theater, 109 Vine St., Lafayette, during Festival International de Louisiane.

The show focuses on a prominent Creole family that’s forced to confront a long-held secret at an annual family reunion.

Performances will be 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by visiting citedesarts.org/events/reunion-written-and-directed-by-patricia-cravins-2025-04-26-14-00.

Also, registration is open for the theater company’s two-week filmmaking workshop, “Movie Magic 101,” for students in the sixth through 12th grades. At NuNu

Tickets are on sale for a performance by Austin singer-songwriter J.M. Stephens at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, in the Singleton’s Pure Listening Room at NuNu Arts & Culture Collective, 1510 Courtableau Highway, Arnaudville.
