MUSIC CONVENTION: The Mountain State Music Convention takes place Thursday-Sunday, Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, at Valley Park Conference Center, Hurricane, West Virginia. CHOSEN: Lilly Harper Ryan, 20, daughter of Retired Lt. Col. Jerry “Chip” Floyd and Amy Floyd of Ona, has been selected as Maid Silvia LXXXVI for the 86th Mountain State Forest Festival to take place Saturday, Sept. 28, through Sunday, Oct. 6, in Elkins, West Virginia. She is granddaughter of Frank and Laura Santmyer of Elkins, Jim and Diana Sturm of Huntington, Norwin and Donna Lilly of South Charleston, Joe and Janet Richards of Charleston, Sandra Dennison and the late Jerry Floyd of Ona. Lilly graduated with very honors and in the top 5 percent of her class in 2021 at Cabell Midland High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and other clubs/organizations, as well as a volunteer for Cabell County Special Olympics and participant in the Army National Guard Youth Leaders Camp and Marshall University SCORES. She received the Redhawk Excellence Scholarship and accepted into the Honors College at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she is a senior to graduate in December with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science with a minor in disability studies. She will be crowned Queen of the festival during the Royal Coronation at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Citizens Bank of West Virginia Outdoor Amphitheatre at Davis and Elkins College.
