BEMIDJI — Haunting music, a small village not found on any map, and a love story beyond compare will greet visitors to Bemidji Community Theater’s production of “Brigadoon” on Nov. 10-12 and 17-19, at the BCT Performing Arts Center, 316 Beltrami Ave NW.
Show times are 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.
Somewhat reminiscent of the popular “Outlander” TV series, audience members can travel back in time with the cast and crew to a quaint Scottish village of Brigadoon circa 1746 as they bring to life such memorable melodies as “The Heather on the Hill,” “I Think I’m Falling in Love,” and “I’ll Go Home with Bonnie Jean” as well as rollicking dances including a sword dance and bagpipe music provided by John Patrick Egelhof.
During a hunting trip to Scotland, Tommy Albright (played by Jaxon Anderson) and Jeff Douglas (Ken Schreiber) become lost in the mist and stumble into the mythical village of Brigadoon where they meet many of its quaint characters.
At first, they are enchanted by the villagers’ dress and manner of speaking but soon become entangled in romantic liaisons between Tommy and Fiona (Mary Anderson) while Jeff enjoys a harmless tryst with Meg Brockie (Tiffany Barta).

It is only when Harry Beaton (Thorn Post), the rejected suitor of Fiona’s sister Jean (Hannah Fletcher), threatens to leave Brigadoon, that the two men realize the full extent of the contract made by a local preacher 200 years ago to preserve its peace and special beauty and protect it from the evils of the world around them.
Once every 100 years, Brigadoon and all its inhabitants live life to the fullest for one day but disappear into the Scottish mist for the next 100 years, but if anyone leaves Brigadoon, the town and all of its people will be lost forever.
A cast of 35 community members ranging in age from 8 to 70-plus round out the cast with stage direction by Mary Knox-Johnson, vocal direction by Paul Loxtercamp and accompaniment by Carol L. Johnson. Providing choreography is Krista Winkka of Fusion Dance Center.
The production is also supported by Dwayne Johnson, scenic construction, scenic painting by Rebecca Laesch, lighting design by Madeleine Smith and sound design by Christianna Beldo.
The production manager is Ernie Rall, with Kristine Cannon serving as the stage manager.
