Clark: 17-5 singles record in 2023
SUPERIOR, Wis.- The high school girls tennis season may be over in Wisconsin, but the Superior Spartans have a rising star that’s worth keeping an eye on in 2024.
Freshman Lily Clark ended the 2023 season as Superior’s number two singles player, compiling a 17-5 record. Clark made the rare jump from middle school to varsity this fall, but she says her teammates helped her feel more comfortable with the change in competition.
“As a freshman, it was kind of amazing,” smiled Clark. “It was my first year with the team, and they’re all very welcoming into that spot.”
Head Coach Mark Winkle is also looking forward to watching Clark’s progression. “One of my best memories of this season was our third match she was playing at three singles at the time against a Hudson player, and I watched her battle through every point and had a great win. I realized that she’s a real competitor and is ready to compete right away.”
Clark will likely head into the 2024 season as the Spartans’ number one singles player with Sydney Friedrich graduating at the end of the school year.
