Brooklyn Museum celebrates 200 years of arts and culture for the borough

This weekend marks 200 years since the opening of the Brooklyn Museum, with crowds filling the iconic building for the free music, art displays and interactive exhibits inside.

Event organizers of the museum’s birthday party tell News 12 that over 10,000 people pre-registered to attend the event. The celebration features a live band, pop-up exhibits as well as access to all the displays and interactive arts and crafts.

“We are at the intersection, literally, of so many diaspore communities with unique art and unique culture. And so we really wanted to give people a chance to express that to get involved…whether it’s art or poetry…and really appreciate everything that there is here…,” said Brooklyn Museum event organizer Lauren Zelaya.

Zelaya says for the next 100 years for the museum, they hope to continue to spotlight local artists, creatives and give the community a chance to experience art that resonates with them.

The party will continue Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
