Andre Braugher, the beloved actor, died at the age of 61.
Braugher, best known for his appearances in acclaimed crime shows such as Homicide: Life on the Street and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, died on Monday after a brief illness, according to his rep, Jennifer Allen.
He won his first Emmy in 1997 and his second in 1998 for his role as Detective Frank Pemberton on Homicide, which aired from 1992 to 1998. He won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award and two Television Critics Association awards.
On the show, he also met his wife, Ami Brabson, with whom he married in the early 1990s. They have three children: Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley.
In Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the beloved role of no-nonsense Captain Raymond Holt received four Emmy nods. He had 11 Emmy nominations over his career, including a second win for the 2006 miniseries Thief.
During his stint on the program from 2013 to 2021, he won two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and was nominated for four Emmy Awards.
