Browning, Tynes Earn Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame Inductions


WILMINGTON, N.C. – Former UNCW athletics administrator Joe Browning and women’s basketball coach Sherri Tynes will be inducted into the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame in May of 2024.

Browning recently retired from UNCW following 38 years of directing the athletics communications office while Tynes, who was head coach of the Seahawk women’s basketball program from 1990-93, coached locally at E.A. Laney High School for 23 seasons before retiring.

Joining Browning and Tynes in the class of 2024 are Connor Barth, a Wilmington native and kicker for several NFL teams, James Faison III, a North Carolina Central football standout, and Alley Hart, who played basketball at Wake Forest.

The ceremony will be held May 19 at the Wilmington Convention Center.
