King Charles praised BTS for their global impact on pop culture and for utilizing their celebrity to further important issues.
The British monarch, along with Queen Camilla, welcomed South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee to the UK for a state visit.
The quartet attended the Buckingham Palace banquet alongside approximately 170 other guests, including BLACKPINK members Jisoo, Rosé, Jennie, and Lisa.
During his address, Charles compared the success of BTS’s Dynamite to the Beatles’ Let It Be.
“Korea has matched Danny Boyle with Bong Joon-ho, James Bond with Squid Game and the Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’ with BTS’s ‘Dynamite,’” he went on to say.
“Our cultures share a remarkable ability to captivate imaginations across the world, transforming a so-called soft power into a shared superpower.”
Charles’ nod follows the BTS military declaration. BigHit, the boy band’s talent agency, confirmed that the remaining four members of the band had formally begun their enrollment in the South Korean military.
For the uninitiated, South Korean men are required to serve in the military for a set time before reaching the age of 30.
Jin, J-Hope, and Suga have already spent a year in the army in various roles.
Meanwhile, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are on their way to the institution.
