Burlington celebrates first Tuscaloosa store with grand opening ceremony

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – A new clothing store opened in Tuscaloosa this weekend, just in time for holiday shopping.

Burlington opened its first Tuscaloosa location in a familiar location for shoppers, but offers some merchandise that’s different from the business it replaced.

The store’s grand opening generated a lot of excitement as more than a hundred people lined up outside Burlington before they opened. As members of the Central High School marching band and cheerleaders performed for the ceremony, Burlington offered deals to some of the first customers through the door while others just wanted to look inside Tuscaloosa newest clothing store.

Burlington is in the Shoppes at Legacy Park Shopping Center in the space once occupied by Bed Bath and Beyond. It offers discount clothing for men, women, and children as well as home décor.

“One of the number one, I guess really not complains, but suggestions is we need more shopping places. And I think this is a very telling sign today that people really mean what they say,” said Tuscaloosa City Councilman Kip Tyner, whose district includes Burlington. “I think Burlington really made a smart decision by coming here.”

Burlington also presented a $5,000 check to the principal of University Place Elementary School before its grand opening.
